Cemetery of Montmartre

Originally a quarry used as a mass grave during the Revolution, the Cemetery of Montmartre later became the final resting place for writers, artists and philosophers, from Émile Zola to Vaslav Nijinski, and more recently, Pierre Cardin. It’s a hilly setting, lending itself to contemplation while overlooking rows of stone marking 20,000 tombs. There is sculpture to be found, evoking the character of the dead.
